1. Ice Fishing

Lake Granby is one of the best places to go ice fishing! Ice fishing is a great winter activity where you drill holes into frozen bodies of water to catch fish. It can be a peaceful and relaxing way to spend a cold day! We take it up a notch in Granby at our annual 3 Lakes Ice Fishing Contest. It’s the longest-running competition west of the Mississippi! So grab your pole and get fishin’. Just don’t forget to get your fishing license (we can help with that at Country Ace!).

With five lifts and 38 runs, there is a special route for all you snow bunnies. You can also hop around the surrounding areas, like Winter Park, if you are on a winter kick! 3. Cross-country Skiing & Snowshoeing

If you need a break from the rush of downhill skiing, try cross-country! Also known as Nordic Skiing, cross-country skiing is a great way to cover a little more ground while exploring Granby and the surrounding areas. Visit the Grand Lake Nordic Center for great routes through Granby’s winter wonderland! You can also strap on snowshoes to tramp around the hiking trails when they are buried in snow.

4. Snowmobiling

If you need a little more of an adrenaline rush, check out snowmobiling. Colorado’s snowy mountain ranges are the perfect place to experience the ultimate winter thrill! On The Trail Rentals is just about 20 minutes from Granby in Grand Lake, and is a great place to see if snowmobiling is for you. They offer guided and unguided tours, so beginners and experienced snowmobilers alike can enjoy the backcountry trails near Granby.

5. Dog Sledding

That’s right, dog sledding in Grand County! For most, Colorado is much more accessible than Alaska, so we’re thrilled to have the Snow Mountain Ranch sledders in our neck of the woods. Ride with their team of Alaskan huskies over a 2-mile trail through the breathtaking Colorado countryside.

You can also head over to Grand Lake Nordic Center, where they have ten free tubes to share! But it’s usually more fun if you don’t have to wait. We have everything you need to enjoy your winter activities! And that includes sleds. While you’re at Country Ace, ask our team about their favorite sledding hills—we have more hidden gems than we know what to do with!
